Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, January 4, 2025) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) coordinated a successful strategic operations plan to ensure the safety of Uptown visitors during the New Year's Eve celebrations. Enforcement actions included 18 arrests: eight adults and ten juveniles. There were no major incidents during the scheduled holiday festivities in Uptown. Officers seized six firearms.
In preparation for the New Year's Eve celebrations, CMPD officers conducted home visits through the Juvenile Apprehension and Diversion Empowerment (JADE) Unit with prior juvenile offenders to discourage criminal behavior. Out of 10 home visits conducted by the JADE Unit, there were no juveniles who re-offended on New Year's Eve.
The ten juveniles who were arrested ranged in age from 10 – 15-years-old. Their charges include violating the Youth Protection Ordinance, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Subsequently, all parents/guardians of the arrested juveniles were cited and charged with Contributing to the Delinquency and Neglect by Parents and Others.

- Murray Edwards, 42, is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Disorderly Conduct.
- Rassell Young, 18, is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resist/Delay/Obstruct and Possession of Marijuana.
