Juvenile Arrested, Two Suspects Wanted in Vehicle Larceny Series

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, December 20, 2023) – In cooperation with the Department of Juvenile Justice, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives were able to obtain a secure custody order this evening and the male juvenile suspect is back in custody.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing and additional charges are pending.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, December 20, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Providence Division have arrested and charged a juvenile suspect in connection to a vehicle larceny series in the Providence Division.  Two additional suspects remain outstanding.

 

On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Providence Division officers responded to a larceny from motor vehicle call for service in the 4400 block of Sharon Road.  Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims that reported having their vehicles broken into and items stolen.  The victims stated the break-ins occurred sometime between late night hours of Wednesday, December 13 and the overnight hours of Thursday, December 14.    

 

Following the Sharon Road vehicle larcenies, six additional locations of vehicle larcenies were reported on Thursday, December 14.  In all, 84 vehicles were broken into. Please see the associated incident report numbers below:

  • 20231214-0745-00 (4870 Cameron Valley Pkwy; 2 vehicles)
  • 20231214-0800-00 (1530 Queens Rd; 9 vehicles)
  • 20231214-0849-00 (2100 Queens Rd W; 7 vehicles) 

 

Providence Division detectives were able to determine that the suspects broke into an additional 100 vehicles in the early morning hours of Monday, December 18, 2023, in two locations along the East Boulevard corridor.  See the associated reports below:

As a result of the continued investigation into these cases, CMPD detectives identified the two suspects in connection to this case.

 

In the afternoon hours of Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the male juvenile suspect, accompanied by his mother, voluntarily turned himself in at the CMPD’s Central Division Office in Uptown and was interviewed by detectives.  At the completion of the interview, the juvenile was charged with the following:

 

  • Auto-Theft
  • Breaking into a Motor Vehicle
  • Larceny after Breaking into a Motor Vehicle
  • Conspiracy

 

Detectives attempted to obtain a secure custody order for the juvenile, however, the Department of Juvenile Justice denied the request and the male juvenile suspect was released into the custody of his mother.  The juvenile suspect has a lengthy criminal history and is known to officers. Detectives will be meeting with Department of Juvenile Justice supervisors to reevaluate the issuance of a secure custody order for this juvenile.  

 

In addition, detectives identified one adult female suspect in this investigation and obtained arrest warrants.  On Tuesday, December 19, officers attempted to serve the outstanding warrants against the female suspect, Hannah Jayna Freeman (DOB: 11/23/2004), however, she was able to elude arrest and fled from officers at a high rate of speed in a stolen vehicle. As a result of this investigation, she will be charged with over 100 criminal violations in connection to this investigation.

 

Detectives are working to identify the third suspect in this series.
