Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 15, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit have identified and obtained arrest warrants for a second suspect in connection to the murder of Mr. Aaron Thompson.

 

During the late morning hours of Wednesday, August 14, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) in conjunction with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Devone Javar Walker, 20, in Harrisburg, N.C. Mr. Walker was then transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Walker was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Felony Accessory After the Fact to First Degree Murder.

 

Mr. Thompson’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 12, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Aaron Remont Thompson, 37. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

As a result of the investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified and charged a suspect in connection to the murder of Mr. Aaron Thompson.

 

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, detectives arrested Mr. Marcus Darel Watson, 25.  Mr. Watson was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Watson was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.

 

Mr. Thompson’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, August 11, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2200 block of Caronia Street in the Westover Division.

 

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Westover Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 2200 block of Caronia Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

 

Shortly after a second victim arrived at a nearby hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Detectives are working to determine the relationship between the two victims.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
