Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 13, 2024) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for her arrest.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Westover Division’s Crime Reduction Unit arrested Bionnah Jeanna Massey, 33, for her involvement in this case. She was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Ms. Massey was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have charged Massey with the following:

  • Murder
  • Kidnapping

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, November 12, 2024) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), along with the United States Secret Service and the Hickory Police Department, arrested Shamario Tyeast Bethea, 41, for his involvement in this case. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Bethea was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have charged Bethea with the following:

  • Murder
  • Kidnapping
  • Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 7, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 400 block of Peachtree Dr. South in the Westover Division.

On Monday, October 7, 2024, shortly before 11:00 a.m., Westover Division officers responded to an assist medic call for service in the 400 block of Peachtree Dr. South.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
