Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, May 22, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Conner O’Neil Yancy, 20.  The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the University City Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, May 22, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7500 block of N. Tryon Street in the University City Division.

 

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, shortly before 1:00 a.m., University City Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 7500 block of N. Tryon Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into the rear of a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) passenger bus.

 

In the vehicle that crashed into the CATS bus, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. This victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by MEDIC. A female passenger in the same vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries related to the crash. The CATS bus was occupied only by the driver, who was not injured.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC, the Charlotte Fire Department and the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) also assisted.
