Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, July 10, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 6100 block of Carver Boulevard in the University City Division.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 5:29 p.m., University City Division officers responded to Atrium Health University in reference to a male victim arriving at the hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.
Homicide detectives responded to the hospital to conduct their investigation and determined the incident occurred in the 6100 block of Carver Boulevard. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services also assisted.
The victim in this case has been identified as Marquez Alexander Summers, 19. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this death.
As a result of the continued investigation and assistance from the Concord Police Department, detectives quickly identified Demarius Jeprese Poole, 22, as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Mr. Poole was already in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges when the arrest warrants were obtained. Mr. Poole has been charged with the following in connection to this case:
- Murder
- Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.
