Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 24, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Joemanie Sweeney, 24.  The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

On, Sunday, June 23, 2024, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit quickly identified and located a suspect in connection to this case.  Homicide detectives arrested, Mr. Jarrette Page, 50.  Mr. Page was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to be interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder (1st Degree)

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, June 23, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9000 block of Faires Road in the University City Division.

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, shortly after 11:00 a.m., University City Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 9000 block of Faires Road. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC also responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
