Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 7, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified a suspect in connection to this case.
On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Jamal Matthew Dean (DOB: 10/18/1998) for unrelated warrant. Mr. Dean was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following: Murder, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 5, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation in the 2200 block of Prestigious Lane in the University City Division.
On Monday, June 5, shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple shots fired calls for service in the 2200 block of Prestigious Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a black male with gunshot wounds. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Homicide detectives along with Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, and Medic also assisted.
