Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, October 12, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Kai Jua Hall (DOB: 04/24/2001). The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in connection to the murder of Mr. Hall.
On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), CMPD’s SWAT Team and the University City Division’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) arrested Deandre Spencer (DOB: 12/20/1999) and Dillon Spencer (DOB: 02/15/2004). Both suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) where they were interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, they were transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder. Additionally, Mr. Deandre Spencer is also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Homicide Investigation in the University City Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 11, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Pavilion Boulevard in the University City Division.
On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, shortly after 10:00 p.m., University City Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 1900 block of Pavilion Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC responded and pronounced the victim deceased.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
