Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 22, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Elijah Johnthan Wright, 21. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 22, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8900 block of Rachel Freeman Way in the Steele Creek Division.
On Monday, July 22, shortly after 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call for service in the 8900 block of Rachel Freeman Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound. MEDIC also responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD and MEDIC also assisted.
