Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, October 4, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit have identified and charged two suspects in connection to the murder of Mr. Elijah Johnthan Wright.
During the afternoon hours of Friday, October 4, 2024, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Mia Patterson, 18 and Logan Lightner, 18 without incident. Both suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, both suspects were transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
Mr. Wright’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 22, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8900 block of Rachel Freeman Way in the Steele Creek Division.
On Monday, July 22, shortly after 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call for service in the 8900 block of Rachel Freeman Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound. MEDIC also responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD and MEDIC also assisted.
