Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 30, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte Mecklenburg-Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit have identified and charged a second 15-year-old juvenile in connection to the murder of Anthony Smith, 15.
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested the juvenile suspect. The suspect was then transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, the juvenile was transferred into the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and charged with Murder.
The victim’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, October 24, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte Mecklenburg-Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit have identified and charged a 15-year-old juvenile in connection to the murder of Anthony Smith, 15.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested the juvenile suspect. The suspect was then transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives. Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, September 11, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Missing Person’s Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the Steele Creek Division.
On September 4, 2024, the family of Anthony Smith, 15, reported him missing. The CMPD’s Missing Persons Unit began an exhaustive search for Anthony Smith.
On September 10, 2024, the Missing Persons Unit responded to the 600 block of Silverleaf Road in the Steele Creek Division as part of the investigation, where they located human remains. CMPD’s Homicide Unit responded to investigate, and the remains were transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.
On September 11, 2024, the remains were positively identified as those belonging to Anthony Smith. The N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office determined Anthony Smith died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
The victim’s family has been notified of his location and death.
