Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, November 12, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8500 block of South Tryon Street in the Steele Creek Division.

On Tuesday, November 12, shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 8500 block of South Tryon Street. 

The victim, Apree Dontell Leak, 22, was transported to the 8500 block of South Tryon Street in a vehicle before getting the attention of a MEDIC truck to assess his injuries. Detectives do not believe this is the main incident location at this time.

Upon arrival, Steele Creek officers discovered Mr. Leak with a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported Mr. Leak to Atrium Main and later pronounced him deceased.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.

Mr. Leak’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
