Case Update: Public’s Assistance Requested in Homicide Investigation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, July 17, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Whitney Elizabeth Hurd, 32. Ms. Hurd was reported missing to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) by her family on July 11, 2024. CMPD Homicide Unit detectives discovered her body at a home in the 5500 block of Werburgh Street on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Homicide Unit detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in attempting to locate the below vehicle, which belongs to Ms. Hurd. The vehicle’s current location is unknown.

Homicide Investigation in the Providence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 16, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5500 block of Werburgh Street in the Providence Division.
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to the 5500 block of Werburgh Street in reference to a death investigation.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
On Monday, July 15, this case was ruled a homicide upon consultation with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office.
