Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, June 28, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified and charged a suspect in connection to the murder of Ms. Michelle Lynn Schechter.

 

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team with the assistance of the Rock Hill Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested, Raphael Omar Wright Jr, 22, in Rock Hill, S.C.  Mr. Wright has since been extradited back to Mecklenburg County and transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder (First Degree)
  • Forcible Rape (First Degree)

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 17, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4100 block of Glenwood Drive in the Metro Division.

 

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, at approximately 10:21 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 4100 block Glenwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The victim was later pronounced deceased.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
