Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 18, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Lonnie Mcconico, Jr. (DOB: 01/27/2005). The victim’s family has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, December 16, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5600 block of Paces Glen Avenue in the Independence Division.
On Friday, December 15, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers responded to an assist Medic call for service in the 5600 block of Paces Glen Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
A second victim was self-transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD and Medic also assisted.
