Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, February 9, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for a suspect in connection to this case.
On Friday, February 9, 2024, Ja’wan Smith (DOB: 06/03/1997) was arrested for the murder of Camron Robinson (DOB: 01/14/2001). He has been charged with the following:
- Murder
- Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
The victim’s next of kin have been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, October 31, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 1000 block of Eaglewood Avenue in the Independence Division.
On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, shortly after 10 p.m., Independence Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 1000 block of Eaglewood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.
Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
