Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, September 4, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit have identified and charged a suspect in connection to the murder of Ms. Diana Perez-Barrera.

 

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), CMPD’s Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST) and the Kannapolis Police Department arrested Mr. Quanticus Rucker, 33, on unrelated charges.  As a result of the unrelated charges, Mr. Rucker was placed into the custody of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

 

On Thursday, August 22, as a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit identified Mr. Rucker as a suspect in the murder of Ms. Diana Perez-Barrera and obtained warrants for his arrest.  The following week, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, Mr. Rucker was transferred from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder (1st Degree)
  • Armed Robbery
  • Kidnapping (1st Degree)
  • Burglary (1st Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon

 

Ms. Perez-Barrera’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, January 19, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7900 block of Turquoise Drive in the Hickory Grove Division. 

 

On Friday, January 19, 2024, shortly before 6:00 a.m., Hickory Grove Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 7900 block of Turquoise Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim with an apparent gunshot wound. This victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services also assisted.
