Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 2, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified and arrested a suspect in connection to this case.
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Ramon Alexi Santos Funes was arrested in in Orange County, Texas by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit will be traveling to Orange County, Texas to interview Mr. Funes. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Funes will await extradition back to Mecklenburg County.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, October 1, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Ramon Alexi Santos Funes, 34, who is wanted in connection with the murder Mr. Khyre’ Jamaal Grier on September 26, 2024.
During the course of the continued investigation, detectives received information that identified Ramon Alexi Santos Funes as a suspect in this case. CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) Detectives are actively searching for Funes and are asking anyone in the public who knows his whereabouts to call VCAT Detectives immediately at 704-336-VCAT (8228).
If you have any information that may help detectives locate Mr. Funes, please call Crime Stoppers at (704)334-1600. Callers will remain anonymous and may receive a cash reward of up to $5,000. Mr. Funes should be considered armed and dangerous.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 27, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as: Khyre’ Jamaal Grier, 25. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for Fabio Herminio Funes, 49, in connection to the murder of Mr. Grier.
On Thursday, September 26, Mr. Funes was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak to detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Funes was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
Mr. Grier’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 26, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive in the Eastway Division.
On Thursday, September 26, shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a check the welfare call for service in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.
