Homicide Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, February 21, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 300 block of East Trade Street in the Central Division.

On Thursday, February 20, shortly after 1 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with injuries call for service in the 300 block of East Trade Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Leashan McBeath, 21, with stab wounds. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

MEDIC transported the Mr. McBeath to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mr. McBeath later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

At this point, the case was ruled a homicide and detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
