Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 3900 block of Sofley Road in the North Tryon Division.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, April 13, 2023) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have identified two additional suspects in this case and obtained warrants for their arrest.

During the morning hours of Tuesday, April 11, 2023, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested, Keanu Camil Rodriguez (DOB: 02/05/2003) and Kevin Alexander McGee (DOB: 08/23/1993), without incident and transported them to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown to speak with homicide detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, both suspects were transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Robbery with a Deadly Weapon
  • Conspire to Commit Robbery with a Deadly Weapon

The victim's next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 25, 2022) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified Angel Manuel Basurto-Mendoza (DOB: 01/03/2004) as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning, York County Sheriff's office arrested Basurto-Mendoza following a vehicle pursuit into their jurisdiction by CMPD's Violent Crime Apprehension Team and multiple divisions.

Basurto-Mendoza will be extradited back to Mecklenburg County and will be charged with:

  • Murder
  • Robbery With a Deadly Weapon (RWDW)
  • Conspire to commit RWDW

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 8, 2022) – The victim in this case has been identified as Vladimir Antonio Garcia (DOB 02/17/2005). The victim's next of kin has been notified of his death.

Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, July 7, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 3900 block of Sofley Road in the North Tryon Division.

On Thursday, July 7, 2022 just before 6:55 a.m., officers responded to an check the welfare call for service in the 3900 Sofley Road.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Medic responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
