On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at approximately 7:24 p.m., Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Metro Division, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the intersection of North Graham Street and Dalton Avenue in reference to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. When first responders arrived, they located a female, later identified as, Michelle Denise Onley, 54, lying in the roadway, unresponsive with life-threatening injuries.  A 2002 Ford Taurus, operated by Elijah O’zion-Sadique McBride, 25, was stopped a short distance from where the victim was located. The victim was transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center (Novant) in Charlotte.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to investigate the incident.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Ms. Onley was crossing North Graham Street outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the 2002 Ford. The Ford was traveling south on North Graham Street. The Ford was approaching Dalton Ave. in the right-hand lane when Ms. Onley walked across the street and was struck. Ms. Onley was transported to Novant. On November 4, 2024, at 12:29 p.m. Ms. Onley was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.  The driver of the Ford was cited for Driving on a Revoked License.

Ms. Onley’s next of kin have been notified of her death.

The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information concerning the crash, should contact Detective Leung at (704) 432-2169 Ext# 6 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
