Fatal Vehicle Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, November 4, 2024) – On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at approximately 6:41 p.m. officers from the North Division responded to the 9700 block of Brookshire Blvd. in reference to a single-vehicle collision with injuries. The Cooks Community Volunteer Fire Department, CFD, and MEDIC also responded. When first responders arrived, they located a damaged 2007 Nissan Altima against a tree. The driver of the Nissan, Lillee Shyann Wright, 16, was pronounced deceased on scene. The juvenile in the front passenger seat was transported to Atrium Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation.
The initial investigation indicates that the Nissan was traveling northwest on Brookshire Boulevard when the Nissan’s front right wheel ran off the road into the soft shoulder resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle. The Nissan ran off the right side of Brookshire Boulevard and collided with a tree. Motorists stopped and were able to assist the passenger out of the vehicle.
Excessive speed or impairment is not suspected in this vehicle collision. The driver and passenger of the Nissan were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Ms. Wrights’ family has been notified of her death.
