Fatal Pedestrian Investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, December 27, 2024) – On Friday, October 18, 2024, at approximately 8:21 p.m. Providence Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 100 block of North Sharon Amity Road in the Providence Division. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. When officers arrived, they located a pedestrian in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital. 

On Thursday, December 26, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit was notified that the pedestrian, Donald Foyster Tillman, 75, died on December 21, 2024, due to injuries sustained in the motor vehicle collision on October 18, 2024.

The preliminary investigation shows that Mr. Tillman did not have the right-of-way and stepped into oncoming traffic. He was subsequently struck by a 2022 Mercedes, driven by Kenneth Burton Reed Jr. Reed, 56. Mr. Reed remained on scene and was not impaired. 

This is an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops, it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
