Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 22, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in the Westover Division.

On Monday, November 6, 2023, at approximately 11:56 a.m., Westover Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury in the 5800 block of South Boulevard.  Upon arrival, officers located a seriously injured male pedestrian lying in the roadway and a 2020 Jeep Compass and the vehicle’s driver located in a parking lot.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the pedestrian to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene, along with Crime Scene Search to conduct an investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Jeep, Jenna K. Whalen (DOB: 12/29/1995) was making a right turn onto South Boulevard from a parking lot when the pedestrian, Marco Antonio Calidonio Morales (DOB 07/18/1970), stepped into the vehicle’s path and was struck by the front right side of the Jeep.

Impairment and speed are not believed to be factors in this crash.

On Monday, November 13, 2023, Mr. Morales succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Mr. Morales’ next of kin has been notified of his death.
