Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 13, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in the Steele Creek Division.

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at approximately 5:14 a.m., Steele Creek Division officers and MEDIC responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a Norfolk Southern Train in the 7100 block of South Boulevard.  Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying on the railroad tracks.  Officers pronounced the pedestrian, Denzel Rayshawn Walker, 33, deceased on scene.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Walker was walking across the railroad tracks when he was struck by a train.  The train crossing was active and the crossing arms were down.

Mr. Walker’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
