Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 30, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the South Division. 

On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 4:13 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 7500 block of Stonecroft Park Drive in the South Division. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries. A Kia Telluride with damage to the front end was located near the injured pedestrian. MEDIC transported the pedestrian to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after the arrival at Atrium Health Main, the pedestrian, Nona Fahl, 69, was pronounced deceased due to injuries she sustained from the crash. 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the hospital and scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and hospital to collect physical evidence. The Charlotte Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Kia was traveling southwest on Colony Drive when Mrs. Fahl was struck as she was crossing Colony Road from Stonecroft Park Drive. The driver of the Kia, Ryan Poage, 34, was not injured.

Mrs. Fahl’s next of kin has been notified of her death.  

The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
