Case Update: Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, September 30, 2024) – The deceased pedestrian in this crash has been identified as Thermon Beaufort, 65. Mr. Beaufort’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the Metro Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, September 30, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Metro Division.
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Metro Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 3000 block of Freedom Drive. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries and a Toyota Corolla with damage to the front-end located near the injured pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported by MEDIC to Atrium Health Main where he was later pronounced deceased due to the injuries he sustained from the crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the Toyota was traveling south on Freedom Drive when the pedestrian was struck as he was walking across Freedom Drive. The driver of the Toyota, Gregory Pratt, 68, was not injured.
Toxicology results are pending for pedestrian.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit is actively working to identify the pedestrian and notify his next of kin.
