Fatal Motorcycle Crash Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 29, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in the Hickory Grove Division.

 

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, shortly before 8:15 p.m.., Hickory Grove Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury involving a motorcycle in the 5000 block of North Sharon Amity Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2005 Honda Pilot damaged in the roadway.  The operator of the motorcycle was also located seriously injured in the roadway. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the operator of the motorcycle and the driver of the Honda Pilot to local hospitals for treatment.  The operator of the motorcycle, Christine Williamson Miller, 55, was later pronounced deceased.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Motor Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the Honda Pilot driven by Jairo Zapet Garcia, 29, failed to stop for a red light while making a left turn from North Sharon Amity Road onto westbound Shamrock Drive.  The right front-end of the SUV struck the front of the Harley Davidson.

 

Mr. Garcia was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, No Operator’s License and a Red-Light Violation.

 

Ms. Miller’s next of kin has been notified of her death.
