Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 28, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle in the Freedom Division.
On Saturday, October 26, 2024, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Freedom Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a 1994 Nissan truck and a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the 7100 block of Tuckaseegee Road. When officers arrived on scene, they located the seriously injured driver of the Nissan (Enio Alexander Valladares, 46) and the injured passenger of the Nissan (Yeni Esmeralda Barrera Valladares). They also located the seriously injured operator of the Harley Davidson (Casey Jon Korbely, 38). MEDIC arrived and transported both occupants of the Nissan to Atrium Health Main. They pronounced Korbely deceased on scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates Enio Alexander Valladares, driving the Nissan, was pulling out of the driveway of 7110 Tuckaseegee Road and turning left onto the eastbound side of Tuckaseegee Road. Casey Jon Korbely, operating the Harley Davidson, was traveling west on Tuckaseegee Road. The left front quarter panel of the Nissan struck the front of the motorcycle, and Korbely was ejected.
It has yet to be determined if speed was a factor for the motorcycle or if impairment was a factor for either driver.
Mr. Korbely’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
This is an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops, it will be released by the CMPD Public Affairs Division.
