Case Update: Public’s Assistance Requested in Fatal Hit and Run Crash Investigation

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 2, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle of interest in a fatal hit and run crash investigation in the North Tryon Division.

 

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., North Tryon Division officers responded to a hit and run vehicle collision in the 5000 block of North Tryon Street.  Upon arrival, officers located a male victim lying unresponsive in the roadway.  The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene before officers arrived.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Medic pronounced the victim, Mr. Curtis Bing, 62, deceased on scene.

 

The vehicle of interest is believed to be a black Dodge Challenger with front-end damage.  The driver of the Dodge Challenger did not remain on scene and the driver did not contact emergency services.

The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. Fatal Hit and Run Crash Investigation in the North Tryon Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 10, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in the North Tryon Division. 

 

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., North Tryon Division officers responded to a hit and run vehicle collision in the 5000 block of North Tryon Street.  Upon arrival, officers located a male victim lying unresponsive in the roadway.  The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene before officers arrived.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Medic pronounced the victim, Mr. Curtis Bing, 62, deceased on scene. 

 

Detectives with the CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  The preliminary investigation indicates, the victim was operating an electric scooter eastbound on North Tryon Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.  The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene of the crash and did not return to the scene.  Mr. Bing was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.  

 

Toxicology results are pending for Mr. Bing. 

 

Mr. Bing’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
