Fatal Hit-And-Run Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 16, 2024) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 4:37 p.m., Hickory Grove Division officers responded to a call of a hit-and-run with injury in the 6200 block of Albemarle Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive pedestrian, Jeremiah Daniel Parrish, 49, lying in the middle of the road. MEDIC transported Mr. Parrish to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Mr. Parrish was attempting to cross Albemarle Road outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a silver 2011 Ford Escape driven by Kenricka Janee Gist, 25. Ms. Gist initially fled before returning to the scene two hours later to speak with officers.
On Saturday, December 14, 2024, Mr. Parrish was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained when he was struck.
Ms. Gist was arrested and charged with Felony Hit-And-Run. Speed and impairment are not expected factors for Ms. Gist.
Mr. Parrish’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
