Fatal Crash Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 7, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Westover Division.
On Monday, August 7, 2023, at approximately 12:47 a.m., officers responded to the 4500 block of Old Pineville Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a 2007 Chrysler 300 stopped in the roadway with front end damage and a female lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The Charlotte Fire and MEDIC also responded to the scene. MEDIC transported the pedestrian to Atrium Health Main with life threatening injuries. The pedestrian later succumbed to the injuries she sustained in this crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates the Chrysler was traveling south on Old Pineville Road when the pedestrian darted into the roadway and was struck by the Chrysler. The driver of the Chrysler remained on scene and contacted 9-1-1 while attempting to render aid.
The driver of the Chrysler was screened for impairment and found not to be impaired. Speed also does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
It is unknown if impairment is a factor for the pedestrian in this case. Toxicology results are pending.
The next of kin of the pedestrian has not been located at this time.
