Case Update: Fatal Crash Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday July 27, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit have identified and charged the driver in this case.
On Thursday July 27, 2023, Metro Division officers located and arrested Jonathan Anguiano (DOB: 08/28/1999) on outstanding warrants related to this incident. Mr. Anguiano was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives. Upon conclusion of the interview, Mr. Anguiano was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
- Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Death
- Involuntary Manslaughter
- Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 3, 2023) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run motor vehicle crash in the University City Division.
On Saturday, July 1, 2023, at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers responded to the 12400 block of North Tryon Street in reference to a two vehicle motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a 2006 Nissan Sentra and a 2021 Dodge Charger, both with extensive damage. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the driver of the Nissan, Sandra Miller (DOB: 06/01/1953), deceased.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan was turning left from North Tryon Street onto Caprington Avenue, when the Dodge, travelling southwest at high speed, struck the Nissan in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest in the southwest lanes of North Tryon Street. The occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot and failed to render aid to Ms. Miller.
The Dodge Charger was reported stolen from Jasper County, Virginia on Thursday, June 29, 2023. The CMPD completed a stolen vehicle recovery report under incident report number: 20230701-2319-01.
Ms. Miller’s family has been notified of her death.
