Fatal Crash Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, January 29, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the University City Division.
On Friday, January 26, 2024, at approximately 10:37 p.m., University City Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury near the 200 block of E. W.T. Harris Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle with heavy front-end damage and a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado with heavy damage in the intersection. Officers also located the operator of the motorcycle, Kyjuan Aquavius Barksdale (DOB: 06/23/2002), unconscious along the roadway. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic responded to the scene. Medic transported Mr. Barksdale to Novant Presbyterian where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene along with Crime Scene Search to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates the Harley Davidson was traveling southeast on E. W.T. Harris Boulevard when it struck the rear of the Chevrolet Silverado as it was making a left turn onto E. McCullough Drive. The driver of the Chevrolet, Pedro Ramos Jr. (D.O.B. 08/07/2005), was not injured.
It is unknown at this time if impairment is a factor for Mr. Barksdale. Toxicology results are pending.
Mr. Barksdale’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
