Fatal Crash Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, January 13, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the University City Division.

On Sunday, December 1, 2024, at approximately 8:25 pm, officers with the University City Division, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the intersection of University City Blvd. and N. Graham St. in reference to an accident with injury involving a moped. 

When first responders arrived, they located Dashrathlal Shankarlal Barot, 82, lying on the roadway with life-threatening injuries. Officers located a moped a short distance away. Mr. Barot was transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. 

Mr. Barot was not wearing a helmet during this incident.

On January 6, 2025, Mr. Barot was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained during the collision. 

Next of kin has been notified of his death.
