Fatal Crash Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 21, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the University City Division. 

On Monday, October 21, 2024, shortly after 12 a.m., University City Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 1800 block of J N Pease Place.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a silver Kia Forte with extensive damage to the front and a parked unoccupied box truck with damage to the rear.  The driver of the Kia was located in the vehicle with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC arrived on scene and pronounced the driver of the Kia, Ashley Diane Davenport, 27, deceased due to the injuries she sustained from the crash.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Motor Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the Kia was traveling north on J N Pease Place when the vehicle lost control and collided with the parked box truck.  Ms. Davenport was not wearing her seatbelt properly at the time of the collision.

Excessive speed is suspected to be a contributing factor of this crash.

Ms. Davenport’s next of kin has been notified of her death.
