Fatal Crash Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, September 19, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Steele Creek Division.
On Monday, September 18, 2023, at approximately 12:52 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash call for service in the 2800 block of Sandy Porter Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2005 Buick Lacrosse with extensive passenger side damage and a 1998 Ford Econoline van with heavy front-end damage in the roadway. MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Buick, Issac Lindsey Huey Jr. (DOB: 11/9/1976), deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Buick was traveling southeast on Sandy Porter Road when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road and overcorrected. The Buick then veered into oncoming traffic and was struck in the passenger side by the Ford van, driven by, Edgardo Reyes (DOB 08/15/1956). Mr. Reyes was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unknown if speed or impairment are factors in this collision. Toxicology results are pending.
Mr. Huey’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
