Fatal Crash Investigation in the Providence Division

 Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, December 12, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving two vehicles in the Providence Division.

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:38 a.m., Providence Division officers responded to a vehicle crash with injuries in the 1200 block of Providence Road. Upon arrival, officers located a brown 1990 GMC pickup truck and its injured driver, Carl Daniel Gardner, 87, and a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali. MEDIC arrived on scene and transported Mr. Gardner to Atrium Health Main.

On Tuesday, December 10, at 1:17 p.m., Mr. Gardner succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Mr. Gardner was traveling south on Providence Road. The GMC Yukon Denali was stopped waiting to turn left onto Cherokee Road. Mr. Gardner failed to reduce his speed and struck the rear of the GMC Yukon Denali.

Speed and impairment are not suspected factors for either driver in this crash.

Mr. Gardner’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
