Update: Fatal Crash Investigation in North Tryon Division (N Graham)

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 2, 2023) – The deceased motorcyclist in this case has been identified as Juan Carlos Vasquez-Reyes (DOB: 01/15/1978). Mr. Vasquez-Reyes’ next of kin has been notified of his death.
At this time, it is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending.
The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Tryon Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 29, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Tryon Division.
On Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 7:38 p.m., North Tryon Division officers responded to the 4000 block of North Graham Street in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a 2011 Yamaha Motorcycle and a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus with front end damage. Officers also located the motorcycle operator lying in the roadway. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene. MEDIC pronounced the motorcycle operator deceased on scene. The driver of the CATS bus, Latesha Denae Buckley (DOB: 11/12/1975), was transported to Novant Presbyterian Main with minor injuries.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, CMPD Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates the Yamaha was traveling on North Graham Street at a high rate of speed when it struck the CATS bus as it was making a left turn.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash for the operator. Toxicology results are pending.
The identity of the motorcycle operator is pending until the next of kin has been notified of the death.
