Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 21, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle in the North Division. 

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, shortly before 7:15 a.m., North Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 8600 block of Old Statesville Road.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a silver Nissan Kick with extensive damage off the roadway. The driver of the Nissan was located outside of the vehicle with life-threatening injuries.  MEDIC pronounced the driver, Mr. Samuel Anthony Michael Campola, 30, deceased on scene.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene to collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the Nissan was traveling south on Old Statesville Road when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.  Mr. Campola was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Excessive speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash.

Mr. Campola’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
