Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 23, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Division.

 

On Monday, July 22, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., North Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 8100 block of W. W.T. Harris Boulevard.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2020 Honda CR-V and a 2011 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle both with heavy damage in the roadway.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the motorcycle operator, Mr. Bryan Alexander Gonzalez Barreras, 21, to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Steet Takeover Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Honda CR-V, Mr. Abhishek Dubey, 39, was making a left turn from W. W.T. Harris Boulevard onto the ramp to I-485 when the motorcycle driven by Mr. Barreras collided with the right rear panel of the Honda at a high rate of speed.  Mr. Barreras was wearing a North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) approved helmet however he was not wearing the helmet properly.  The driver of the Honda and two passengers in the vehicle were not injured.

 

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash for Mr. Barreras.  Toxicology results are pending.

 

Mr. Barreras’ next of kin has been notified of his death.
