Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, February 11, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Division.
On Saturday, February 10, 2024, at approximately 7:22 p.m., officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 5000 block of North Graham Street in the North Division. Members of the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.
When officers arrived, they located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries and a damaged bicycle. A Cadillac Escalade with damage to the front left corner was located just beyond the injured pedestrian. The driver of the Cadillac, Lamont Felmon Mcinnis (DOB: 04/14/1974), was located on scene and advised that he was not injured. Upon arrival of MEDIC, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased due to injuries he sustained from this crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and the DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Crime Scene Investigations also assisted.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Cadillac Escalade was traveling south on North Graham Street when it struck the pedestrian who was standing next to his bike in the left lane of southbound traffic on North Graham Street. Lamont Mcinnis was screened by a DWI Task Force officer and showed no signs of impairment. Speed is not suspected to be a contributing factor for this crash. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that Lamont Mcinnis was operating the Cadillac Escalade with a revoked license and was issued a citation for Driving While License Revoked.
Major Crash detectives are actively attempting to locate next of kin for the pedestrian.
