Case Update: Fatal Crash Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, January 31, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit have charged a driver in connection to this case. 

 

Detectives determined that the juvenile driver of the 2010 Infiniti G37 caused the death of Mr. Palmer by making an improper lane change. 

 

On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the juvenile driver was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle and Improper Lane Change. 

 

Mr. Palmer’s next of kin has been notified of the charges.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, January 18, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Independence Division.

 

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at approximately 4:48 p.m., Independence Division officers responded to a multiple vehicle crash near the 11200 block of E. W.T. Harris Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located a 1999 Ford Escort with extensive damage and a 2010 Infinity G37 and 2012 BMW 335i both with damage a short distance away.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Medic pronounced the driver of the Ford, Daunte Palmer (DOB: 03/08/2006), deceased on scene.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with the Medical Examiner’s Office and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.   The preliminary investigation indicates the Infiniti was traveling on E. W.T. Harris Boulevard when it struck the BMW.  The impact of that collision caused the BMW to hit the Ford.  The driver of the Ford then lost control and struck a tree.
