Fatal Crash Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, August 30, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Independence Division.

 

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at approximately 12:31 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash call for service in the 4700 block of Albemarle Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2004 Ford Explorer that had run off the roadway and struck a tree.  MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Ford, Teasia Monaye Gregory (DOB: 04/09/1989), deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.  The passenger in the Ford, Christina Garland (DOB: 12/02/2003), was transported to Atrium Health Main with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the Ford was traveling east on Albemarle Rd, when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. 

 

Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.  Toxicology results are pending.

 

Ms. Gregory’s next of kin has been notified of her death.
