Fatal Crash Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, January 11, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Hickory Grove Division.
On January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:23 am, officers with the Hickory Grove Division, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the 5100 block Hickory Valley Court in reference to an overturned vehicle.
When first responders arrived, they located an unresponsive black male lying near the vehicle with extensive injuries. He was later identified as Daniel Rashawn Rogers, 26. A Toyota Sequoia was located tipped over on its driver side and a metal garbage dumpster that was tipped over.
Two female passengers were located with the vehicle. The front right passenger was identified as Allexis Keianna Oliver, 22. The second-row right side passenger was identified as Tania Marie Newman, 31. Both female passengers were transported to Novant Health Presbyterian with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Rogers was pronounced deceased on scene by a CMPD officer.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motor Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the crash location to investigate the incident. The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Rogers, Ms. Oliver and Ms. Newman were traveling through the parking lot of the Valleyview Apartments heading to the 5100 block of Hickory Valley Court when Mr. Rogers lost control of his vehicle due to driving at a high rate of speed. Mr. Rogers was not able to regain control before the front right corner of the Sequoia struck a wooden fence and metal garbage dumpster. Mr. Rogers was ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Rogers and Ms. Oliver were not wearing seatbelts. Ms. Newman was wearing a seatbelt.
Speed and impairment are suspected for Mr. Rogers.
Next of kin has been notified of his death.
