Fatal Crash Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, December 13, 2024) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.
Friday, December 13, 2024, at 7:26 a.m., Freedom Division officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 1300 block of Gum Branch Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive juvenile male, Hendrix Truesdale, 11, lying on the side of the road. A 2016 Nissan Frontier was stopped a short distance from where the victim was located.
MEDIC transported Truesdale to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Truesdale was crossing Gum Branch Road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by the Nissan Frontier.
Crime Scene Search and Charlotte Fire also assisted.
Impairment and speed are not contributing factors.
Truesdale’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
