Fatal Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, August 24, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles in the Eastway Division.

 

On Saturday August 24, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury involving two vehicles in the 900 block of Parkwood Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they located a damaged black and red 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle and its unresponsive operator, Spencer Deon Gripp (28). They also located a damaged gray 2017 Nissan Rogue and its driver, Inaya Simone Washington, and right front seat passenger. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced Gripp deceased at 3:09 p.m.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motor Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, Crime Scene Search, and a representative from the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates Gripp was traveling east on Parkwood Avenue at a high rate of speed. Washington was driving north on Harrill Street crossing Parkwood. The front of the Honda motorcycle hit the left rear of the Nissan, and Gripp was ejected from the Honda.

 

Gripp’s next of kin was notified of his death.
