Fatal Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 16, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting a fatal motor vehicle crash investigation in the Eastway Division.

On Saturday October 14, 2023, at approximately 9:43 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injury in the 4800 block of Central Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a 2012 Lexus RX350 and a seriously injured pedestrian in the roadway.  MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased as a result of his injuries.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to investigate. The initial investigation indicates the driver of the Lexus, Yen-Nhu Mai Tran (DOB 12/26/1997), was driving west on Central Avenue approaching Rosehaven Drive. The pedestrian, Arnoldo Mendez Perez (DOB: 06/06/1989), was crossing Central Avenue from north to south. The front of the Lexus struck Perez on his left side in the left travel lane.

Mr. Perez’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
