Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the South Division.

Fatal Crash Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, April 5, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the South Division.

On Tuesday, April, 4, 2023 at approximately 9:39 p.m., officers responded to the 9000 block of Park Road in reference to a motor vehicle collision with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a Jeep Wrangler and Honda Pilot with extensive damage. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene. Medic pronounced the driver of the Jeep deceased on scene. The driver and juvenile rear seat passenger of the Honda were transported to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries. The front seat passenger of the Honda Pilot was transported to Atrium Health Main with life threatening injuries and later pronounced deceased due to injuries she sustained from this crash.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Jeep, Teresa Marie Miller (DOB: 02/01/1987), was traveling north on Park Road at a high rate of speed when she lost control, crossed into the southbound lanes and struck the Honda driven by, Belkin Hernandez (DOB: 08/17/2000). After the collision, the Jeep continued off the left side of the road and struck a tree. The front seat passenger of the Honda has been identified as Rosalina Santos (DOB: 01/20/1974).

Excessive speed and impairment by the driver of the Jeep are suspected to be contributing factors for this crash. The driver of the Honda was screened by a DWI Task Force and ruled to not have been impaired.

The next of kin for Ms. Teresa Miller and Ms. Rosalina Santos have been notified of their deaths.
